Basic steps to meditation

Meditation with music comes in many forms & various techniques. To begin the music meditation, it is suggested that one start with the basic. Make yourself comfortable, sit on a chair with your feet flat on the floor, close your eyes, listen to soft music without lyrics & let yourself be guided by the sound. Allow the mind to wander, thinking of nothing in particular. Do this for one week using the same music every day. The reason is to allow your mind to relax the moment the music starts. The mind is programmed like a computer. Once meditation is programmed, you will only need to say the title or listen to the music & one will be transported to a meditative mindset.

The second week use different music & this time, try not to focus on all your problems. This is called chatter in the mind. We all have this issue & we can quiet down & let it go. Do this by listening to the music & when something comes up in your mind, acknowledge it & gently let it go, you can get back to it after your meditation. One can train his mind to allow issues that arise to come into the forefront & then gently float right back out. Now start to do meditation without music.

For the third week & so on you will increase the 5 minutes music meditation by adding 2 minutes every week. Some people will do music meditation for 15 to 30 minutes a day, twice a day if possible. Music meditation is not as important as how long you meditate, what counts is the fact that you actually take the time to meditate. You may also now wish to attempt sitting on a cushion on the floor in the lotus or half lotus position. The choice is yours, as long as you are comfortable.
